Wenner-Gren Foundation Site Goes Live
Last year Gracombe IT Solutions was hired by the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research to rebuild their website. And this morning, that new site went live.
This project involved porting much of the functionality and design from their previous site to the Drupal open source platform. The goal was not to fundamentally redesign the site - the Foundation is pleased with their current design - but to rebuild the site on a lower cost, highly scalable, well-performing, and non-proprietary system. Drupal was an obvious choice, and we're pleased to have our first Drupal website (other than our own) go live.
While the site is not fundamentally different than the previous one, we have improved content presentation and readability with a few design enhancements. All the same great features including the robust grants search, annual reports, and image library are still present, but at a fraction of the ongoing hosting and support costs.
"The prospect of migrating the foundation's website from a proprietary CMS to an open-source platform was daunting", said Mark Mahoney, Resources Coordinator at the Foundation. "With Gracombe IT Solutions' expert advice and technical support, we were able to assemble a plan and project team that not only made for a seamless transition, but improved our website's overall functionality as well as its ability to leverage existing and emerging technologies for future expansion."
The new site is hosted in our new cloud hosting platform in partnership with Rackspace, providing top tier network infrastructure, scalability, and security. Through our partnership, we offer all the affordable, enterprise-class hosting capabilities required by prominent foundations and nonprofits like the Wenner-Gren Foundation.
We hope you'll visit the new site at www.wennergren.org.
